Reserva - Chardonnay 2014
Chardonnay is arguably the world’s most famous white variety, thanks to its success in France’s Burgundy region as well as throughout much of California. Chardonnay on its own has rather straightforward, pleasant aromas of apple and pear, but when aged (and sometimes fermented) in small oak barrels, the wines take on extra richness as well as notes of toasted almond, vanilla and yeast.
Vineyard
- Valley: Curicó Valley (Entre Cordillera)
- Soil: Alluvial in origin. Clay loam with the presence of stones at 80cm. Fertile soils allow the vines to express all their vegetative and fruit potential.
- Altitude: 243m above sea level.
- Weather: Mediterranean with a long, dry summer season and intense sunlight. Marked DTR (Diurnal Temperature Range, or difference between day and night temperatures), key for assisting the development of flavors.
- Annual rainfall: 600mm average during winter, mostly between June and August.
Vintage & Harvest
Blend: Chardonnay grapes, from estate-grown ungrafted selected clones of pre-phylloxera French rootstock, and 3% Viognier estate-grown grapes add floral aromas and flavors.
Harvest:
- March 4 to 6, 2014, during the morning.
- 100% hand-picked in 18kg boxes and carried to the estate winery immediately after cutting.
- Carefully selected before processing.
Vinification
- Destemmed and chilled to 8°C. Direct pneumatic pressing. 24 to 48 hours of static sedimentation at 8-10°C prior to fermentation
- 30% of the blend undergoes cold maceration for 18 hours to enhance fruit flavors
- Fermented in stainless steel tanks at 14-18°C constant temperature for 25 days with selected yeasts
- Stored in steel tanks for 6 weeks with continuous stirring of the lees with selected enzymes
- Blended with Viognier wine after fermentation
- Stored in temperature controlled stainless steel tanks through bottling
Tasting Notes
Bright yellow with golden hues. Fresh and juicy, this delicate Chardonnay expresses aromas of pineapples, melon and peach combined with exquisite citrus notes. The palate is silky and vibrant with a long and mouthwatering finish.
Food Pairings
An excellent aperitif wine but also pairs well with all kinds of shellfish and seafood, especially more oily fish. Sashimi and sushi, salads. All white meats, pasta with creamy sauces, cheese souffle.
